Where are you working?

I am currently working as a petroleum engineer in western Texas for a major service company. I have experience working across various unconventional reservoirs across North America. I am part of the "Unconventional Oil Boom" in North America and have traveled to different places across the country.

Why did you decide to sign up for CORe?

Coming from a science background, I was always curious as to what they taught in business schools. As a student pursuing my Masters in Petroleum Engineering, I always wanted to experience a business course but could not do so. There are books to read and online courses to take, but the main thing that attracted me to CORe was the virtual learning platform which I think is the future of education. The moment I saw the website and how the program was designed, I signed up for it and was not sure what to expect from it.

What was your favorite part of the program?

The CORe platform and the diversity of the group were the best parts of the program. With the videos, it felt like you were in the classroom with the professors. The diversity of the group with people from different parts of the world was key to the program, and the platform provided the opportunity for everyone to express their views and opinions.

How are you applying what you've learned in CORe?

The concepts I learned in CORe can be applied both for my personal and professional improvement. On the professional side, the concepts I learned help me to understand some of the key management decisions in my company. It was also great to finally understand a balance sheet and what factors have to be looked into. On the personal side, CORe gives a different insight into small things like shopping - things that were always there but I was never aware of them.
