Shalini Agarwal
Why did you sign up for an HBS Online course?
I've always been interested in healthcare management and earned a diploma in health and hospital administration. More recently, I acquired an MBA in human resource management. HBS Online's courses were an obvious next step. I'd heard of the case-based teaching method from my friends and decided to experience it for myself.
What did you enjoy most about learning with HBS Online?
I loved the mixture of academic teaching, case-based review, interaction with peers who had their own experiences to recount, and application in my place of work. To me, it was a complete package.
How are you applying what you learned in the course you took?
I'm a radiologist with nearly two decades of experience. I plan to transition into an administrator role in the future, so, right now, I'm gathering knowledge. I'm also reading books on healthcare management.
What advice do you have for managing the course workload?
My advice is to enjoy it; take it a week at a time. Pay attention, and the course will take you along the path to learning.
What advice do you have about using the HBS Online platform to engage and interact with other students ?
Read comments carefully, and try to answer in the most knowledgeable way possible. It's not necessary to always be right; I've had my peers correct what I've written. In addition to the course material, that provided a learning experience for me.
Do you have any additional advice for people who will be taking HBS Online courses?
I can't think of any other course that offers knowledge in such a playful manner. My advice is to not have any preformed ideas and let the course teach the material to you.
