Why did you sign up for an HBS Online course?
I was having a hard time trying to convince the leadership at my company why I deserved to be an engineering manager so early in my career. Earning a Certificate of Specialization in Leadership and Management helped me boost my skill set and build the confidence to ask for a promotion.
What did you enjoy most about learning with HBS Online?
The real-world examples were the best part of the courses. While going through the examples, I thought a lot about how I would have handled it if I were them. That plays a big role in how I do things now.
How are you applying what you learned in the courses you took?
I'm now an engineering manager and get to apply what I learned in my daily life. All three courses help me from time to time.
What advice do you have for managing the course workload?
I highly recommend taking a course when you can completely focus and absorb the learning. I normally spent 20 hours per week on each topic. I also took notes to make it easier to remember content. I can now go back and read them anytime, in addition to the course summary material.
Do you have any additional advice for people who will be taking HBS Online courses?
Don't lose hope. These courses helped change my career trajectory, and I hope they do wonders in your life as well. In the end, it'll be all worth it.
