Why did you decide to sign up for CORe?

I signed up for CORe because, as an undergrad student in engineering, I never had the opportunity to take many electives. I have considered getting an MBA and/or starting my own company and was looking for an opportunity to dive into some business classes. I was considering taking economics and accounting classes on the side while completing my master’s degree. I realized that through Harvard Business School Online, however, I could get the same experiences I could get in a classroom over time all in only a few months.

What was your favorite part of the program?

My favorite part of the program was the flexibility offered. As a varsity athlete, I travel often and typically have practice during many traditional class hours. I liked that I could do the work on my own time and from any location.

How are you applying the skills you've learned in CORe?

Right now, I am involved in a program called Hacking for Defense. This is a class where college students work with the military to solve important issues that it is currently facing. The class is designed around something called the Mission Model Canvas, which is similar to the Business Model Canvas. There is a pilot program at Boise State University and I was asked to join the team based on my experience with HBS Online and business background.

Any advice for people who will be taking CORe?

Stay on top of your work! I managed to get through CORe with minimal stress. I was able to do this because I never waited until the last minute to complete a module and made sure I was at least 90% done a few days in advance. This way, if anything came up or if it took me longer than expected, I had buffer time to work with.
