Maggie Robb
Head of Operations at Spire Inc.
Why did you decide to take Entrepreneurship Essentials?
I decided to take Entrepreneurship Essentials as I recently pivoted in my career and went from working with very large corporations to a startup in Silicon Valley. While I have a deep business background, I was not well versed in several important aspects of entrepreneurship like investment structure, fundraising, and valuation. Entrepreneurship Essentials covered these topics well and I was surprised at some of the additional takeaways I had. For example, the concept of testing and iteration as a critical aspect of business formation. While not something I was completely unfamiliar with, I realized the importance of it within a startup and it made me look at our resource allocation in a different way compared to traditional companies with established products.
What was your favorite part of the course?
I really enjoyed hearing the stories from successful entrepreneurs. Their experiences, navigation of hard times, and advice were interesting to hear and helpful as I can see similarities in the situations I face at work.
How are you applying what you’ve learned in Entrepreneurship Essentials?
I am thinking about the way my startup performs tests, iterates quickly and efficiently, and how we allocate funds to align with our strategy.
Any advice for people who will be taking Entrepreneurship Essentials?
Make sure to listen to the advice from the entrepreneurs you will hear from.
