Current undergrad ready to begin her next chapter in the fin-tech industry with a competitive edge from CORe
Why did you decide to sign up for CORe?
I decided to sign up for CORe for a few reasons, as a graduating senior, I have taken most of the electives that I found interesting in my department. Thus, when my college formed a partnership with Harvard this semester to offer CORe to students I was immediately interested by the course description and being able to gain exposure to the Harvard case-study approach. Additionally, I will be starting my career this summer in the fin-tech industry and I felt that this course would give me a competitive edge, and help me to better understand some of the decisions and practices that I may need on the job to better gauge my clients’ needs.
What was your favorite part of the program?
I thoroughly have been enjoying all parts of the program. Since I am an Economics major, my favorite part of Economics for Managers is that I am able to learn many of the concepts I am familiar with in a different way through the use of real-world application. My favorite part of Financial Accounting is how well each lesson is broken down. Even though I have taken an accounting course in the past, learning accounting through HBX has helped me to better understand the reasoning behind different principles. Also, I definitely enjoy Businesses Analytics the most. The concepts are very interesting and detailed and have taught me a lot about adequately testing data for statistical significance. Lastly, I enjoy how easily I am able to connect with my cohort and ask questions on the platform.
How are you applying what you've learned in CORe?
I am currently applying what I am learning to case study projects, where I have to test for different factors that are having a leading impact on the dependent variable of interest. Furthermore, I have been able to apply the concepts I have learned to help me develop my research and analyze my regressions results for my senior thesis paper.
Any advice for people who will be taking CORe?
My best advice for individuals who will be taking CORe is that this is an in-depth course that offers you the ability to learn some of the most important business and financial concepts used today, so you have to dedicate an appropriate amount of time to fully grasp each lesson. The course is not difficult because each lesson is very thoroughly explained, but you have to have time to get through the lesson and be able to review for the quizzes.
