Why did you decide to take Disruptive Strategy?

I took the course to gain better insight into not only how Disruptive Strategy is applicable to the industries I serve, but also how it can be applied directly to a complex economic development organization that I work for. Our organization has undergone several restructures within the last five years which has been a direct result of changes in industry and leadership. I wanted to be able to view our economy more strategically so that we can build our new organization as skillfully as possible to compliment business growth and development in the region.

What did you find most insightful about the course?

This was one of the best courses I have taken in all of my post-secondary education. I really appreciate how Professor Christensen introduced high-level complex theories and broke them down into digestible chunks. When applied to real-world examples, the concepts are brought to life. The theories discussed provide a set of valuable lenses with which to view strategic thinking. I approached each module with enthusiasm, eager to see how I would be enlightened with the next concept and how that would be interwoven with previous thinking!

How do you plan to apply what you've learned in Disruptive Strategy to your career?

The organization I work for is currently undergoing a major restructure, and I plan on using these concepts to help with our the next iteration. The content of this course has also opened my eyes to what a "disruptive" type of entity in our field may look like. Would I want to be a catalyst for creating a completely new way of doing economic development? I'm trying to work through what that model may look like as well.
