Dr. Patricia Hewston
What prompted you to sign up for Leadership Principles?
Leadership is an essential part of my role. With professional development funding from the Labarge Post-Doctoral Fellowship for Mobility in Aging, I was drawn to Harvard Business School Online’s Leadership Principles certificate program to learn from top business leaders and develop the essential skills to drive team performance and advance our clinical research projects.
What did you enjoy about learning with Harvard Business School Online?
I joined an online community of learners committed to take on new challenges and cultivate high-performing teams. Learning on the HBS Online platform was highly engaging, with a new activity every three to five minutes. My favorite type of activity was the HBS cold calls—i.e. being asked to succinctly answer challenging questions within a matter of minutes—which helped me to think strategically on the spot.
How are you applying what you learned in Leadership Principles?
Leadership Principles has helped shape my unique leadership style. One of the most influential lessons for my leadership development was the HBS four-step process for delivering effective feedback and coaching—a process that I now apply on a daily basis.
Any advice for others who take an HBS Online course?
HBS Online courses are well worth the time and investment to lead with confidence.
