Why did you take Disruptive Strategy?
We took it upon ourselves when building The Continuum Group from one agency to six firms (and growing) to disrupt the global digital agency model. I wanted to do a deep dive into the theories and best practices of Disruptive Strategy (as part of a series of studies I am undertaking at Harvard) to make sure I was as prepared as possible to lead this vision and get the best out of the opportunity, the teams, and the potential.
What have you found most insightful about the course?
Being able to get my head out of the nuts and bolts of commerce to receive theories and practical examples from one of the best business minds in the world and case studies from some of the best businesses in the world has been extremely valuable in challenging how I think, and more importantly, what I do in my role with the Continuum Group.
How do you plan to apply what you've learned in Disruptive Strategy to your career?
I already have! From the moment I started studying I knew there were theories and methodologies that I could apply to the Continuum Group. From a macro scale, it helps me understand where the different elements of the group sit in their respective markets and how they interact, grow, compete, disrupt, and really nail the job to be done for our customers.
As an early indicator, last week we were awarded the Golden Spider award (considered the Irish Oscars of our industry for "Best Agency of the Year in Ireland" for our strategy division, particularly for our work in disrupting the industry that we are in and for our growth over the last three years. Our motto is "Never Standing Still," and I believe we are still only warming up!
