Making the shift from the corporate world to entrepreneurship.
Why did you decide to take Entrepreneurship Essentials?
Making the shift from corporate life to being an entrepreneur after over 18 years in the banking industry was inevitable. I woke up to go to work feeling empty every day. I felt that my job had lost its dynamism and sparkle, and I couldn't help people or their businesses thrive anymore. However, I was always fascinated by stories of becoming an entrepreneur. I knew I had to make a break, so I began searching for the right path to take. I reviewed a lot of online certificate courses, and that's when I stumbled across Entrepreneurship Essentials. From the course outline and with the learning methodology learning from your cohort, I knew I was in the right place. I immediately told my husband and we both signed up.
What was your favorite part of the course?
For me, it was the case studies. They brought everything to life. Successful entrepreneurs are real people and not superhuman. They pursued their passion, followed the principles, and continued pushing forward despite challenges they encountered. I loved the case study on Intuit and the Quickbook App. It was something I could relate to, and it helped me to understand and know that fear can be good because it fuels your passion to keep you moving forward.
How are you applying what you’ve learned in Entrepreneurship Essentials?
I'm following the OPCD principles to start my venture. From choosing my team to drawing up the deals with agents, suppliers, and customers, every step is well thought over and team contributions are invaluable in giving us fresh perspectives. I have learned to run tests and work on feedback, which we are currently using to re-strategize our next move. My team is small, but we are onto something big.
Any advice for people who will be taking Entrepreneurship Essentials?
Go in empty - let go of any preconceptions so you can appreciate every classmate’s perspective. Take time reading their comments to gain more insight. Give yourself enough time to study. You can't rush this course! Build relationships off the platform through networking. You're in for an exhilarating time!
