Allie O'Hanley
Founder and Director of Rxhibition, a new nonprofit organization that curates, designs, and installs art exhibitions in chemotherapy treatment areas
Background
I became interested in art at a young age. My mother is a sculptor and used to teach ceramics, so she often used to bring me to the studio while she was teaching. I studied art history through college and then began working in curating in several museums including the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
In graduate school, after my aunt was diagnosed with leukemia, I became involved with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, but I wanted to do more than fundraising. I tried to find a way to help using my expertise in art and exhibitions, and Rxhibition was born.
Current Situation
I recently founded Rxhibition, a nonprofit that curates, designs, and installs art exhibitions in chemotherapy treatment areas. We have incorporated and begun operating, and we have officially signed our first major hospital client.
What do you hope to get out of CORe?
I expected CORe to be much more of an overview. I never was expecting the depth that it truly delivered. I received a strong foundation to be confident enough to build my own startup.
What's on the career horizon for you?
I plan to grow Rxhibition and secure enough stable funding to do it full time. Because I started it from scratch without funding, I was unable to hire anyone to help with the legal or financial aspects of starting the company. Thus, I built it from the ground up on my own, and I would never have been able to do it without CORe.
