Raymond Porch is the Manager of Diversity and Pipeline Programs for Boston Public Schools and is tasked with creating sustainable ways to recruit, cultivate, and develop educators of color.
As a new manager, Raymond took Management Essentials to elevate his managerial skills and improve strategies to make his pipeline programs successful. In the course, he learned how developing processes, managing decision-making and collaborating with stakeholders are integral to achieving success at work.
As an educator who works with kids, Raymond and his staff are always looking to extend the learning, or bring the lessons to life outside the classroom. He found the Harvard Business School Online platform did just that for him, bringing the concepts to life through real-life business examples.
“It became more real,” he says. “The work that I do every single day, what’s uniquely bound to that is that these processes and these strategies are relevant for all things.”
Raymond believes that skills he learned during the course have positively affected both his career and personal life.
“When I think about my own personal journey, it’s given me a lot more confidence," he says. "With management now in this particular role that I’m in, the course it’s been a huge, huge help for me.”
