Change is inevitable in business. Leaders must navigate turbulent market conditions, evolving industry trends, global competition, and digital transformation. To keep up, the typical company has implemented five organization-wide changes in the past three years, according to data by research and consulting firm Gartner—and nearly 75 percent expect that number to multiply in the next three years. Yet, half of change initiatives fail and only 34 percent are clear successes.
Harvard Business School Online's new certificate program is designed to help experienced team leaders execute successful change initiatives. Leading Change and Organizational Renewal is a six-week online course that will equip you with practical frameworks, tools, and skills to anticipate and respond to external shifts, overcome barriers to change, and drive transformation.
You'll learn how to build an “ambidextrous organization” that can manage today's business and tomorrow's innovation from the renowned faculty who coined the phrase: Michael Tushman, the Baker Foundation Professor and Paul R. Lawrence MBA Class of 1942 Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School, and Charles O'Reilly, the Frank E. Buck Professor of Management at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Throughout the course, they'll introduce you to business experts from organizations of various sizes and industries, who will share real challenges they've faced implementing transformational change. You'll meet leaders from Cloudflare, Lululemon, Havas, Deloitte, AGC Glass, Nedbank, and Enel. As you learn from their experiences, you'll apply your knowledge through a change initiative within your own organization and leave with a detailed action plan for tackling it.
“This course will help innovators, mid-level managers, and experienced team leaders manage successful change initiatives,” says Senior Managing Director of HBS Online Simeen Mohsen. “Whether you work at an established market leader, a fast-growing midsize organization, or a dynamic emerging business, you'll gain tools to shape your company's culture and overcome the inertia that plagues established businesses.”
In Leading Change and Organizational Renewal, you'll:
- Explore roadblocks to change and how to overcome them
- Analyze the root cause of your organization's performance and opportunity gaps
- Build your organization's architecture by understanding the relationship between its hardware (structure, processes, and systems) and software (capabilities and culture)
- Discover how to set strategy, improve execution, and lead innovation streams
- Use power and politics to address resistance and maintain control during transitions
- Understand the link between personal and organizational renewal
Before, during, and after the course, you'll have opportunities to engage with a global network of like-minded business professionals also trying to navigate change. You can ask questions and share experiences and expertise to accelerate your learning, broaden your perspective, and challenge your worldview.
