HBS Online Launches Reimagined Business Fundamentals Credential Program

Over the last decade, nearly 60,000 learners worldwide have enrolled in Harvard Business School Online’s Credential of Readiness (CORe) program. It’s helped them prepare for their MBA, earn a promotion, and build the confidence to drive business decision-making.

CORe’s goal has always been to help learners achieve business fluency. But business moves fast—and speaks a new language. Employers increasingly seek professionals who can think strategically, evaluate financial performance, navigate workplace dynamics, and effectively leverage emerging technologies, like AI, to generate insights and guide decision-making. To meet the demand, HBS Online has reimagined CORe to better reflect the fundamental business skills professionals need today.

Starting with the June 17, 2026, offering, the Credential of Readiness (CORe) will become Core Business Essentials. This updated credential program will feature refreshed course content, a standardized 17-week format, and a new capstone project—equipping you with the language of modern business and the confidence to make an immediate impact on your career and organization.

Announcing Core Business Essentials

Core Business Essentials will consist of three courses—Business Analytics, Business Strategy, and Financial Accounting—plus curated workplace dynamics lessons, combining the technical and interpersonal skills required for a well-rounded business foundation.

The addition of Business Strategy reflects the demand for professionals who can move beyond analyzing markets to making deliberate choices about how their organizations create value and sustain competitive advantage.

Throughout the experience, you’ll apply your learning through a capstone project that integrates analytics, strategy, and accounting—challenging you to synthesize what you’ve learned and apply it to your professional development goals.

In Core Business Essentials, you’ll learn how to:

  • Interpret financial statements to evaluate a business’s overall health and the impact of important financial transactions

  • Analyze and interpret data to inform business decisions

  • Master the language and tools of business strategy to contribute meaningfully to your team and organization’s success

  • Develop foundational skills for navigating workplace relationships, negotiations, and ethics

Throughout the program, you’ll engage with real-world challenges facing seasoned business leaders and be asked to think critically, apply course concepts, and leverage your peers’ perspectives to determine a path forward. The experts featured represent a range of industries and organizations, including Best Buy, JPMorgan Chase, DoorDash, and Morgan Stanley.

You’ll leave the program with frameworks and tools you can apply immediately, whether analyzing your organization’s financial performance, evaluating growth opportunities, pricing a new product, or preparing for strategic leadership conversations.

The program is not only immersive, but accessible: Over 17 weeks, you can complete the courses in any order and on a schedule that works best for you—making it a flexible option for early- and mid-career professionals, entrepreneurs, and those considering business school. If you’d prefer a recommended structure, there’s an option for that, too.

Introducing an Updated Business Analytics

As part of the updates to Core Business Essentials, HBS Online is also launching a new version of Business Analytics.

Please note: Learners enrolled in the June offering of Core Business Essentials will experience the updated Business Analytics curriculum as part of the program. The standalone version of Business Analytics will transition to the updated format and be available on demand starting July 8, 2026.

Business Analytics is transitioning from five modules to four, reducing the total time commitment to approximately 20 to 24 hours. The updated curriculum will shift from tool-specific Excel techniques toward an emphasis on practical data interpretation, evaluation, and decision-making.

In Business Analytics, you’ll learn how to:

  • Analyze data visualizations and statistical results to inform business decisions

  • Leverage sampling, variation, bias, and statistical evidence when making decisions under uncertainty

  • Design and evaluate A/B tests

  • Interpret predictive model outputs and assess different approaches’ effectiveness

  • Identify when AI tools should be leveraged and evaluate the impact of moving AI systems from experimentation to operational use

  • Integrate prediction, experimentation, and AI insights to justify business decisions

Through this updated curriculum, you’ll build analytics fluency and an integrated understanding of data-driven decision-making—without needing to develop models or tool-specific expertise. These updates reflect the growing expectation that business professionals, not just technical teams, know how to interpret data, evaluate predictive insights, and make informed decisions in an AI-enabled work environment.

To reflect these changes, Business Analytics will transition to the Digital Transformation and AI Learning Track as of May 20, 2026. Learners who complete three digital transformation and AI courses within 18 months will earn an advanced Certificate of Specialization. If you’ve already finished Business Analytics, you have 18 months from the start of your next eligible course to complete the Learning Track.
