Chelsea Pompadur
College graduate working with youth in London
Background
I’m an American, but I’ve lived in the UK for 9 of the past 14 years doing some combination of studying and working. My degree choice was very much influenced by having lived abroad during adolescence. I became much more aware of – and interested in – the world around me, and I started following world events and politics.
I chose to study psychology as well because I wasn’t entirely sure about what I would want to do when I got older, but I knew I wanted to work with people, so I did a joint degree in International Relations and Psychology.
Most of my volunteering and employment experience has been working with adolescents, including working at an all-boys secondary school in inner-city London.
Current Situation
I currently live in London. I do a combination of tutoring, volunteering, and taking some courses, so I figured it was a good opportunity to try out CORe.
What do you hope to get out of CORe?
In the past, I’ve shied away from the business world for the most part, except for the little I needed to know for my degree.
I would also like to be able to join in on conversations about the economy more! Basically, I just want to be more well-informed.”
What's on the career horizon for you?
In the future, I would like to work for a charity or in higher education. I plan on continuing to work with young people in some capacity as well.
MA International Relations and Psychology, University of St Andrews, Scotland
However, I have realised that if I want to progress beyond many entry-level positions, then a bit of business knowledge would be really helpful.
